How long will the appointment take?
Your first podiatry appointments can take up to 40 minutes. If ongoing treatment is required, follow up appointments can range from 20-30 minutes.
What will we do?
In your initial appointment we will review your medical history and assess your condition.
A complete foot and lower limb examination to check your vascular status, nerves, soft tissue and bones of the feet as well as foot function and footwear.
We will then focus on the problem you have described, providing you with a diagnosis and if necessary refer you for further investigations, such as an ultrasound or X-ray, if there are any concerns.
During your consultation, specific education will be provided about your condition including the reason behind your pain or symptoms, treatment options and preventative strategies to help keep you symptom free.
What to bring to your first podiatry appointment?
Please bring anything to your appointment that you feel will assist with your diagnosis and treatment. This may include referral letters, current medication list, footwear and any relevant test results such as X-rays or ultrasound reports.
We recommend you wear loose, comfortable clothing that will not restrict movement and enable us to see and assess your lower limbs.
The day before your consultation, our reception staff will confirm your appointment with your preferred method of contact. Please feel free to contact us for confirmation, if you have not received a reminder.
Please note children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by either a parent or guardian.
Initial appointment check list
- Any previous relevant investigations of your condition (X-rays/ ultrasounds).
- Loose trousers or clothes.
- A current medication list.
- Referral (if you are on a GP Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan, Department of Veteran Affair patient, motor vehicle accident or work cover claim).
- Everyday footwear/ sporting shoes.
- Private health fund care, Medicare card, or DVA card (if applicable).
Do I Need a Referral for My First Podiatry Appointment?
No, you do not need a medical referral to see a podiatrist.
If you have private health care you can claim an instant rebate from your health fund utilising our HICAPs machine. Payment is required at the time of the consultation by cash or EFTPOS.
If you are unable to attend please advise Well Heeled Podiatry as soon as possible. The minimum cancellation time is 24 hours – more notice is extremely appreciated as this means someone else in pain can utilise the time that was set aside at the time of booking.
Failure to provide 24 hours notice will incur a full payment fee for the treatment.
